About Us
Mission/History
The Kentucky Philanthropy Initiative (KPI) mission is:
- to promote and support philanthropy in Kentucky; and
- to promote strategic grant making and private-public partnerships as a solution to the Commonwealth’s enduring challenges, starting with a focus on Early Childhood Education and Child Health/Welfare.
Background
The Kentucky Philanthropy Initiative, Inc was established in 2008 as a 501 (c) 3 organization. Its founder and president is Judith G. Clabes, a retired corporate foundation executive. KPI’s executive director is Michael J. Hammons, Esq, who brings extensive experience in state government, grass roots organizing and community service to this statewide effort. Funds for its operations and programming are provided by private donors.
In 2008, KPI convened two committees of experts to identify and analyze the most important issues and best practice solutions related to early childhood education (please link to that page) and child health and welfare (please link to that page) in Kentucky. These advisory committees were made up of distinguished volunteer experts from across the state, charged with offering key interventions through which private philanthropy could achieve the greatest good for young children in partnership with public interests.
