Judith G. Clabes is chair of the Commission on Philanthropy and President Emeritus of Scripps Howard Foundation. She retired from the Foundation in 2008, after serving as president and CEO for 14 years and with the E.W. Scripps Company for 37 years. She is currently president and CEO of Judith Clabes Associates, a consulting firm working with philanthropic organizations.
She is a life-long Kentuckian and a graduate of the University of Kentucky School of Journalism. She holds an MPA from Indiana State University and three honorary doctorates. She was editor of The Sunday Courier and Press in Evansville, Indiana, and The Kentucky Post and served on the board of the American Society of Newspaper Editors. She is the founder of the First Amendment Center at UK, received numerous national and state honors for her work in journalism and philanthropy, and has been widely recognized for her civic work.
A native of Henderson, Ky., she and her husband, Gene, now live on a horse farm in Bourbon County. They have two sons and five grandchildren.
